Queer Film Club (QFC) is proud to present BORN IN FLAMES, with an introduction by Suyane Oliveira formerly of New Haven Pride Center on Thursday, March 16th at 6:30pm. Entry is free with a suggested donation of $5.
BORN IN FLAMES is a 1983 American dystopian docu-fiction drama film written, directed, produced and edited by Lizzie Borden that explores racism, classism, sexism and heterosexism in an alternate socialist democratic United States. The title comes from the song "Born in Flames" written by a member of Art & Language, Mayo Thompson of the band Red Krayola.
From First Run Features: "The movie that rocked the foundations of the early Indie film world, this provocative, thrilling classic is a fantasy of female rebellion set in America ten years after a social democratic cultural revolution. When Adelaide Norris, the black radical founder of the Woman’s Army, is mysteriously killed, a diverse coalition of women – across all lines of race, class, and sexual preference – emerges to blow the System apart.
Newly restored in high definition on its 35th anniversary, Born in Flames is even more relevant in today's political climate. Preserved by Anthology Film Archives with restoration funding from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and The Film Foundation."
QFC is a new and exciting collaboration between New Haven Pride Center, East Rock House, Hamden Pride, and Best Video Film & Cultural Center. QFC will be presenting 4 “Dyke Dramas”, one per month, January through April.
