Womanimation! 2024 Film Festival

Womanimation! is the premier showcase in the US of international women’s animation, a special one-day event highlighting a dozen short films, culled from hundreds of submissions from women around the globe.

Womanimation! visits Best Video on Saturday, June 29th, with repeat screenings at 1:30 pm, 4:30 pm, and 7:30 pm, Tickets are $12.

About the Program

In roughly the length of a typical 90-minute feature film, the festival entertains and challenges the audience, with visual styles from stop motion to computer animation to traditional hand drawn.  The focus is on independent animators and studios, and the material is not for younger children, with more challenging content than mainstream animation.

Themes may be deep and dark or light and fanciful, from complexities of gender roles, to coping with death, to strange worlds where logic takes a holiday.

Awards and Audience Participation

Audiences vote for their favorite three films of the program, with the top overall vote-getter of the three screenings being declared the winner.  A special jury of women musicians who have topped the charts on MergingArts global radio programs will review and rate the films. 

Both award winners receive a custom art object award created by a previous festival winner. 

Music and More

Each screening is preceded by a slide show with music introducing the filmmakers, and DJ Madame B will weave soundscapes created by women across the globe between screenings, and there will be special live video performances specially for the festival. Festival organizers will be in attendance to introduce the program.

The Best Video Coffee Bar will be open for beer, wine, drinks, and snacks, and from 12-9 pm, Vittles Food truck brings their Southern Comfort Food (including vegan options by request) to the festival.
