AUTHOR READING: Letters from the Ecotone: Ecology, Theology, and Climate Change

THIS EVENT IS FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.

On October 23 at 7:00 PM at Best Video in Hamden, Rev. Andy Nagy-Benson and Rev. Dr. Andi Lloyd will read from their book Letters from the Ecotone: Theology, Ecology, and Climate Change.  The book invites readers into a conversation between an ecologist (Lloyd) and a pastor (Nagy-Benson) about life in a time of climate crisis, and this evening event is an invitation to join that conversation.

Rev. Andrew Nagy-Benson has been an ordained minister of the United Church of Christ for 23 years.  He was educated at Colby College (B.A., English, 1992) and Yale Divinity School (M. Div., 1998) and is currently pursuing a D. Min. in Creative Writing and Public Theology at the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. Rev. Nagy-Benson serves as senior pastor of The Congregational Church of Middlebury (United Church of Christ) and is an affiliate chaplain at Middlebury College.  He was a lecturer of homiletics at Yale Divinity School and has co-taught courses on the ecology and theology of climate change at Middlebury College.  He has contributed articles to Feasting on the Word (David Bartlett and Barbara Brown Taylor, Eds.; Westminster/John Knox Press, 2008) and Connections (Joel B. Green et al, Eds.; Westminster/John Knox Press, 2018). He and his family reside in Weybridge, Vermont.

Andrea (Andi) Lloyd was a professor of biology at Middlebury College from 1996 until 2020.  She served as the Dean of the Faculty and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Middlebury from 2012 through June, 2019.  In her work as an ecologist, she studied the effects of climate change on forests in Alaska and Siberia, tracking how changing climate affected the growth and distribution of trees in high-latitude forests. She is the author or co-author of 3 book chapters and 30 peer-reviewed scientific articles.  During her time at Middlebury College, Lloyd taught classes on plant ecology, evolution, and climate change.  She left Middlebury College in June of 2019 to pursue a call to ordained ministry in the United Church of Christ. After graduating from Yale Divinity School (M.Div., 2022), she moved to Castine, Maine, where she serves as pastor of the Trinitarian Congregational Parish of Castine.
