Knox Chandler and Bobo Lavorgna play Best Video Film & Cultural Center on Fri., Jan. 13, starting at 7 PM. The cover is $10. Chandler and Lavorgna will be performing “Soundribbons: An Evening of String Improvisations.”
Knox Chandler’s career spans over four decades, including performing, recording, arranging and producing, with REM, Depeche Mode, Grace Jones, Marianne Faithful, Natalie Merchant, Tricky, The Creatures, Dave Gahan Paper Monsters and The Golden Palominos. His long stints as a member of The Psychedelic Furs, Siouxsie and the Banshees and Cyndi Lauper’s band has given Knox the experience of a worldwide recording and touring musician.
For the past ten years Knox resided in Berlin Germany, deepening his exploration of sonic soundscapes (soundribbons), and applying it to different genres and mediums. In Berlin, he composed, recorded, toured, produced, and wrote string arrangements for such acts as Herbert Grönemeyer, Jesper Munk, Pure Reason Revolution, The Still, TAU, Miss Kenichi and the Sun, Mars William’s Albert Ayler Xmas, Rita Redshoes, Them There, The Night, and Eric Mingus, as well as developing his solo Sound Ribbon project. During this period he was also the head of the guitar department at BIMM College. Knox now resides in the New Haven Connecticut area.
Bobo Lavorgna performs and records with many regional blues, rock, folk and jazz groups, including 2015 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Mark Naftalin, The Bargain, Brian Larney, Mercy Choir, Jake & the Family Jewels, Ebin-Rose Trio, The Modeans, Robert Silverman, Tommy Cosmo, and Bobo and the Unusuals. He toured the U.S. as a member of the Stormin’ Norman and Suzy Band, opening for Manhattan Transfer at Carnegie Hall, and has opened for Sam and Dave, Ritchie Havens, Ian Matthews, Geoff Muldaur, NRBQ, Pousette-Dart Band, and John Hammond (with Robert Crotty)
