Acoustic roots singer-songwriter Joe Flood and new Irish music group Canal Street share the bill at Best Video Film & Cultural Center Fri., Mar. 15. The show starts at 7 PM and the cover is $10.
Songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Joe Flood has traveled a long musical road. He has played and written songs with the likes of Levon Helm of The Band, jam band faves Blues Traveler, Americana stalwarts the Bottle Rockets, had on stage and studio encounters with such giants of American music as Pinetop Perkins, Dr. John, Allen Toussaint, and John Sebastian and done stints as a sideman with The Band’s Rick Danko, Eric Andersen, Kelly Willis, Happy and Artie Traum, Mojo Nixon, Tom Russell, Sylvia Tyson, Greg Trooper...and the list goes on.
Canal Street is a trio comprised of Derek Monahan, Matthew Burke, and Iván Belvis-Navarro.
Derek is a versatile guitarist, banjoist, and singer working across New England. He has built a career performing various styles of music including classical, disco, Irish, sea shanties, and rock.
Matthew originally hails from the great state of Maine and has spent time living in both Cape Breton, Nova Scotia and Cork, Ireland honing his traditional fiddling style. Matt's playing can be heard on Spotify with the band Beyond the Pale (Hill of Sallows). He also was a founding member of the contradance band “The Gooseberries”.
Iván Belvis studied Communications with a Major in Music and Audio Production at the University of Puerto Rico and is an award winning producer for both music and television including winning a Latin Grammy and a nomination for an Emmy. He started playing multiple instruments at a young age and after an introduction to ITM in the early 2000's and later moving to Connecticut with his wife, Ivan decided to focus on Irish Traditional Music.
