Film Screening: ALL THAT HEAVEN ALLOWS

Please join us for the first film in the November Screening Series featuring Director Douglas Sirk. We begin our series with 1955’s All That Heaven Allows, featuring Rock Hudson, Jane Wyman, and Agnes Moorehead. Wyman plays Cary Scott, an affluent widow whose life is furnished with all of the superficial excesses of a suburban, upper-class lifestyle. Cary dutifully performs her role as the archetype this lonely life has laid out for her. That is until Ron (Hudson), her much younger arborist, falls deeply in love with her. Battling the torment of unending social strife, not only from her friends, but her own children, Ron and Cary must remain true to the love that binds them together.

The series is being presented by BVFCC staffer Teo Hernández. The guest speaker for this film will be Christopher Sharett, P.H.d., Professor Emeritus of Visual and Sound Media at Seton Hall University. Dr. Sharrett is a Contributing Writer, CINEASTE, New York, and a member of the Editorial Board, Quarterly Review of Film and Video, Baltimore and London.
This program is made possible through a generous grant from the CT Humanities organization, an independent, non-profit affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities. CTH connects people to the humanities through grants, partnerships, and collaborative programs.
