Author Reading: Bessie Flores Zaldívar

Please join Best Video for a very special evening with author Bessie Flores Zaldívar for a reading from her new YA novel, Libertad at 7pm on Wednesday, February 24th. This event is free and open to the public. Donations are always deeply appreciated.

Bessie Flores Zaldívar is a queer writer from Tegucigalpa, Honduras. She received an MFA in Creative Writing from Virginia Tech. Libertad, Bessie’s debut YA novel, was named a Best Book of 2024 by Publishers Weekly, Booklist, Chicago Public Library, and Kirkus Review. It was also awarded the Pura Belpré Honor Award by the American Library Association in 2025, which recognizes a Latino/Latina writer whose work best portrays and celebrates the Latino cultural experience in children’s and youth literature. Bessie lives in New Haven, where she teaches fiction at Quinnipiac University.
