Grace Yukich plays a record release show for her new album “Wisteria” Fri., Dec. 2, at Best Video Film & Cultural Center. Grace will be joined by special guests Kelly Kancyr, Sarah Dunn, Al Pascarelli, Sean O’Reilly, and Erika Simonian and Steve Curtis of Little Silver. The show starts at 7 PM and the cover is $10.
Grace Yukich is a CT-based singer-songwriter whose folk music is a little bit country and a little bit punk. An Alabama native who has called the Northeast home for two decades, Grace has been singing, writing, and playing music since childhood. She is thrilled to have Best Video host this album release party celebrating the release of her first studio album, Wisteria (pre-order at https://graceyukichmusic.bandcamp.com/).
On Wisteria, Grace explores the idea of home—including family, love, dreams, and loss—and how the meaning of home changes over time in beautiful and painful ways. Written in the aftermath of Covid and divorce, Wisteria is about creating space for new growth while maintaining roots in what’s valuable from the past, and about taking time to poke fun at life’s absurdities along the way. In addition to her solo act, Grace sings and plays guitar in the femme punk band Corpse Flower. When she’s not making music, she and her daughter can be found harvesting poorly-tended vegetables from their backyard garden.
Special Musical Guests:
At the rebellious age of 8, Kelly Kancyr turned her first instrument, the violin—her mother's choice—into a guitar, playing it like a distorted Les Paul. She learned in that moment that musical instruments don’t have to be played in a traditional way, a philosophy that lies at the heart of her style. Drawn to wide array of genres, Kelly finds she can change musical stylings as easily as she has moved around the world. In her vintage folk rhythms and emotionally raw lyrics, you can hear both the wide-open spaces of Santa Fe and the rocky beaches of the east coast.
Sarah Dunn is a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. Their solo EP debuted this year, with an adjacent, full-length project due in 2023. They write in a vulnerable, specific, and deeply personal voice. Sarah also plays bass in the femme punk band Corpse Flower and plays fiddle in the traditional Irish music group, The Alehounds.
Al Pascarelli is a singer-songwriter from Black Rock, CT, and a member of the folk-rock band The Moonrise Cartel. Drawing on influences such as John Moreland, Jason Isbell, Bob Dylan, and Emmylou Harris, his band is known for combining poignant songwriting and melodies that stick with soaring vocal harmonies to create memorable music that feels both current and classic at the same time. Al will be joined by the incredible Sean O’Reilly on keys.
Singer-Songwriter, pianist and harpist Sean O'Reilly is a New Haven-based artist who has recorded and released multiple albums and currently streams live every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from Youtube, Facebook, and multiple other social media platforms. www.seanoreillyband.com (@seanoreillyband)
Little Silver consists of Brooklyn transplants, Steve Curtis (Hem) and Erika Simonian. “Their elegantly understated debut, “Somewhere You Found My Name” does what great, grown-up indie rock at its best has always done. It maps out states of personal, emotional and historical in-betweenness with careful, intelligent grace.” - Rolling Stone
